We are excited to introduce you to the newest member of our team, Brittany Ager! Brittany is an registered practical nurse who came to Toronto to pursue her RN designation. We are thrilled to have Brittany on our team as she is an expert in patient care and brings a wealth of experience from working in primary care settings in the past.
We asked Brittany a few questions to get to know her better!
1. How did you become an RPN?
BA: I graduated, with Honours, from the Registered Practical Nursing Program at Northern College in May 2013. I became an RPN because I truly enjoy the profession of Nursing and being able to help people in need. Having the opportunity to expand my education and experience within the Nursing discipline, is an important value that I uphold and during my employment as a RPN I recognized that I needed to pursue my education further, and in May 2015 I completed my Bridging to University Nursing at Centennial College where that allowed to me continue my Nursing studies at Ryerson University in the Post Diploma Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing program.
2. What do you enjoy about your job?
BA: I enjoy being able to get to make a change in someones life, positively. As a caring and compassionate Nurse, it is important to ensure that everyone who I interact with leaves with at least a smile on their face, even during the difficult times, as it shows that they were listened too and heard. I strive for patient advocacy and I try to keep as up-to-date on new studies in nursing and medicine, to bring forth to the health care team, to ensure that the aim for best patient care is being maintained and achieved.
3. What excites you about working in Toronto, in particular, the Upper Beaches neighbourhood?
BA: What excites me about working in Toronto is the opportunity to give back to the community. The Upper Beaches neighbourhood is a growing neighbourhood of small local stores, friendly community members, and it’s not that far from the beach! My passion for giving back to the community is a core value in my nursing practice.
4. What is one thing you would like to share with your patients?
BA: One thing that I would like to share with my patients is that I am originally from Northern Ontario, and as a Northerner; also a farmer. I have really enjoyed nature and the outdoors. When I am not Nursing, I am typically out cycling along beautiful bike paths or hiking in the woods and eventually I hope to have a small Hobby Farm in the Future.
We are so lucky to have Brittany on our team!
In addition to providing many other services for patients, Brittany can:
- provide vaccinations
- perform pelvic examinations
- perform medical procedures such as ear syringing
- take blood samples (soon to come to Vivo Family Medicine!)
