Botox Procedures at Vivo Family Medicine!
At Vivo Family Medicine, our team believes that a part of living a healthy life is both feeling and looking your best. We are delighted to announce that Botox services are now offered at Vivo Family Medicine. All cosmetic procedures will be performed directly by Dr. Kadhim-Saleh.
What is Botox? Throughout the aging process, the repetitive contractions of the facial muscles can result in frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. Botox can help reduce the signs of aging. When injected into facial muscles, Botox relaxes the muscle to smoothen these wrinkles and offer your skin a rejuvenated, youthful look.
What are the areas that can be treated with Botox? Botox injections can be used to treat several areas of concern, such as:
- Frown lines (area between eyebrows)
- Forehead lines (horizontal wrinkles)
- Crow's feet (smile lines on the outer corner of the eye)
Sounds great. I’m in! Am I eligible for Botox? We recommend that Botox only be used in adults over the age of 18. Adults should not use Botox if they:
- Possess an allergy to any of the ingredients in Botox or any other botulinum toxin product
- Have an infection in the muscles at or near the site of injection
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have neuromuscular disorders
*Prior to receiving the procedure, we kindly ask that you disclose any health conditions or problems during your consultation with Dr. Kadhim-Saleh.
What should I expect when I come in for my procedure? Botox procedures are personalized to your needs. When you meet with Dr. Kadhim-Saleh for your complimentary consultation, you may discuss the areas you wish to treat (such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and/or forehead lines) and he will determine the dosage and sites of injection for your procedure. In general, the procedure for Botox only lasts for a few minutes.
Will I experience any discomfort during the procedure? Some patients report that receiving a Botox injection feels like nothing more than a pinch. While it is not necessary to numb the site of application, patients receiving Botox may discuss the possibility of numbing the area with Dr. Kadhim-Saleh during their consultation.
When can I expect to see results? After Botox is placed into the targeted muscles, the smoothing effect gradually begins anywhere from 3-7 days and the maximum effect can be seen two weeks after the procedure. Be assured that tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after your treatment. Although there is a small risk of bruising, this is typically temporary and minimal.
How should I care for myself after my procedure? When Botox is administered properly there is usually little to no recovery time needed by the recipient. However, your aftercare is just as important as your preparation for the procedure. Some general suggestions include:
- Avoid manipulating the treated area for 3 hours following treatment.
- Refrain from participating in activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 6 hours after treatment. This will keep the Botox concentrated in the injected area.
- Do not lie down for 4 hours after your Botox treatment. This will prevent the Botox from moving to untreated areas.
Are there any side effects associated with receiving Botox? As with any other medical procedure, there is a possibility of unexpected side effects. Some potential side effects include redness, bruising and swelling following treatment with Botox. There is also a risk of infection; however, Dr. Kadhim-Saleh uses a sterile technique and cleans the area thoroughly to reduce this risk. Eyelid drooping and asymmetry may also occur, however, this is minimized by careful planning and a conservative approach to dosing. Dr. Kadhim-Saleh will provide more guidance at your consultation on what to expect from the procedure.
Will I need to repeat the procedure? Botox will last approximately 3-4 months. With repeated treatments, the effects of Botox can last for a longer period of time.
